Project Updates
The Olney Rec Center Rebuild project launched with a community kick-off event in May 2019. The first phase of the
project consisted of community engagement, which included 5 interviews, 2 focus
groups, and community conversations at 12 local events. Project partners
collected 864 surveys, mostly from youth, to better understand what community
members value about Olney Rec Center and what they want to see in the new rec
center. During this phase architects and engineer conducted a thorough site
assessment of Olney Rec Center. They conducted a detailed
inspection to determine the conditions of the building, systems, and site before
beginning the design phase.
With a thorough site assessment complete, construction partners then estimated the rough costs associated with the renovations and replacements that would
be necessary. After reviewing the costs and the programmatic needs at
ORC, the decision was made to demolish the current Olney Rec Center building
and construct a new structure. The existing gymnasium will remain and will be
renovated. The new Olney Rec Center grounds will feature an outdoor recreational track
and artificial turf multi-sport field, updated basketball and tennis courts,
new playgrounds, a new sprayground, and more!
